The Humboldt Penguin is currently classified as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. This is largely due to the human depletion of fish stocks. As well as this, they are also the target of hunting and in recent decades El Niño events have played havoc with the Humboldt Current, displacing the cool fish rich water with nutrient deprived warmer waters.

Here at Peak we have a colony of 27 Humboldt Penguins and over the last three years we’ve had amazing breeding success with 9 chicks being born. By adopting a penguin, you’re putting money towards the park’s vital conservation work as well as the work of penguin charity Sphenisco; safeguarding the future of these amazing animals.
